Caption:
This historic 1939 image depicted a flooded pump house at the Midland Hill Golf Club in St. Paul, Minnesota. The flood had also contaminated water wells elsewhere in the area. This was one of a series of instructional photographs used by the Minnesota Board of Health to train public health workers. The focus of the images was on protecting water supplies from bacterial contamination due to events like the one depicted here, and even minor flooding as well.
