This photograph depicts a sectioned human heart, extracted at the time of this patient’s autopsy, revealing the gross pathologic changes caused by a case of idiopathic cardiomyopathy. Note the thickened, dilated left ventricle with subendocardial fibrosis manifested as increased whiteness of the endocardium.
