This historic image depicted some swimmers in the Mississippi River, near Holman Airport, St. Paul, Minnesota, May 20, 1933. It was created during a Minnesota Department of Health study of the public bathing, and recreation areas along the river. This was one of a series of instructional images, used by the Minnesota Board of Health to train the state's public health workers. The purpose of the photographs, and the appropriate training, was focused on protecting water supplies from bacterial contamination.
