This historic photograph, created on May 11, 1933, depicted the former Minneapolis Gas Light Co., located along the banks of the Mississippi River. Note the industrial outlet, as it was emitting waste into Mississippi River in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As one of a series of instructional images, used by the Minnesota Board of Health to train its state public health workers, the purpose of the photographs, and the accompanying training, was focused on protecting water supplies from toxic contamination due to the discharge of industrial pollution.
