This 1949 historical photograph was provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The image showed a number of workers in a foundry that had been exhausted, or cleaned. The workers were wearing either goggles, or eyeglasses, which offered a modicum of protection from airborne hazards. However, industrial workers located in such settings, can also be exposed to dust during the metalworking process, which is a potential respiratory health hazard, as well as an eye health problem. This photograph appeared in the “Industrial Hygiene Newsletter, Vol. 6, No. 7”.
