A residential area of government trailer homes near Raleigh, North Carolina. The government issued trailers are parked in rows, connected to power lines, and have curtained windows. In the center of the photo is an outdoor common area with running water, garbage cans, and a “PLEASE TURN OFF THE FAUCET AND…” sign. A late model car is at the roadside, a woman carries a child, and a woman in the far distance crosses the road. Pine trees surround the trailers. “FSA” identification numbers, stenciled on the trailers, are visible in several related photographs. Original documentation indicates that this was a “Work Camp” and was photographed by the U. S. Public Health Service it is portrayal of American living and working conditions.
