This test establishes the procedure for ensuring that the respirator is designed and constructed to fit persons with various facial and neck shapes and sizes as specified by the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) panel. The is accomplished by determining the LRPL values provided by APER configurations submitted for new approval, extension of approval or examined during certified product audits, meet the minimum certification standards set forth in this Standard Test Procedure as prescribed in 42 CFR Part 84, Subpart G, Section 84.63(a),(c)&(d), and the Statement of Standard for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Air-Purifying Escape Respirator (APER). This STP describes the determination of LRPL for human subjects wearing a CBRN APER in sufficient detail that a team of persons knowledgeable in the appropriate technical field can select equipment with the necessary resolution, conduct the test, and determine whether or not the respirator passes the specified test.
