This 1962 photograph depicted a head to foot posterior view, of a 15-year-old Canadian boy, who was part of a missionary trip to Brazil. Caused by the DNA virus, Variola minor, otherwise known as alastrim, the characteristic maculopapular rash due to his illness, was shown two weeks post-onset. Alastrim is a milder form of smallpox, which is caused by Variola major.
