ID#: 11004
Caption:
Under a magnification of 1000X, this photomicrograph revealed some of the cytoarchitectural morphology found in a section of normal, newborn human foreskin tissue, which had been extracted from a fibroblast tissue culture. However, unlike PHIL 11003, which featured a depiction of a normal human foreskin fibroblast culture, this culture had been infected with the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), also known as Human herpesvirus 3 (HHV-3). The virus is not visible at this very low magnification, but its negative effects on the fibroblastic cytoarchitecture, is quite evident. See PHIL 199 and 1878 for electron microscopic images of the varicella zoster virus, which is the causative agent of chickenpox.
