This 1962 photograph depicted former Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Director, David J. Sencer, MD, MPH (1966-1977), in the process of administering a Mantoux tuberculin skin test (TST) as a intracutaneous injection on this recipient’s right forearm. The injected tuberculin fluid will cause a 6mm-10mm wheal to form at the injection site. The Mantoux tuberculin skin test is used to evaluate people for latent tuberculosis infection (TBI).
