This 1968 image depicted a 2-year-old, Ohio female, who after having received a smallpox vaccination, sustained what is termed an accidental implantation of the newly-introduced vaccinia virus. Note the erythema and swelling around her left eye due to this accidental implantation of the vaccinial virus.
