This illustration reveals the morphologic differences between an Anopheles sp. female mosquito, and that of a female, Culex sp. The Anopheles sp. female possesses longer palpi, and no light-colored band along the shaft of the proboscis, but a lightly-pigmented tip, whereas, the palpi on the Culex sp. female are very short, and the shaft of the proboscis has a single, lightly-pigmented band, and no light-colored tip.
