Caption:
Processed using Dieterle’s silver stain, sometimes referred to as Pund’s method, this photomicrograph reveals the presence of numerous Donovan bodies. Diagnosis of granuloma inguinale is based on the appearance of encapsulated, Klebsiella granulomatis bacilli, formerly known as Calymmatobacterium granulomatis, referred to as Donovan bodies. These are safety pin-shaped microorganisms that appear inside infected tissue cells under a microscope.
