This image depicts the dorsal surface of a woman’s forearms and hands revealing marked swelling of the right hand after having been stung by a yellow jacket, Vespula sp. wasp, 24-hours earlier. The ensuing swelling and erythema subsided 72-hours after beginning oral corticosteroid administration. Note the erythema around the site of the sting on the dorsum of the right hand. The patient had an immediate positive skin test reaction to hornet (H), honey bee (HB), and yellow jacket (YJ) for a period of 24-hours after the introduction of the hymenopteran allergens.
