Caption:
Under a magnification of 300X, this photomicrograph revealed some of the ultrastructural features displayed by a Verticillium sp. fungus. Note the septate hyaline hyphae, from which sprouted whorls of conidiophores, which gave rise to whorls of pointed phialides. At the tips of the phialides, solitary, or clusters of conidia, were born. In this particular case, most of the conidia were missing, and measured between 2-13µm in length.
