This patient presented with scorbutic gums, due to his vitamin C deficiency, a symptom of the disease known as scurvy. The condition involves inflammation of the gums, known as gingivitis, as well as gingival hemorrhages, due to the breakdown of capillary components of the gingival vascular system.
