This is an illustration of a photomicrograph depicting a gentian violet-stained culture specimen, scraped from a lesion diagnosed as Vincent’s angina. The micrograph revealed the presence of numerous fusiform bacteria, as well as several species of spirochetes. Vincent’s angina, or Plaut-Vincent angina, is a form of tonsillitis, caused by a spirochetal, or treponemal bacteria.
