This highly magnified transmission electron microscopic (TEM) image depicted numerous Lassa virus virions in an unknown tissue culture sample. Many of the virions can be seen outside the confines of the host cell, but some were in the process of budding free of a host cell membrane (arrowheads), after having undergone replication within the cell cytoplasm.
