Caption:
This infant was born deceased, due to a genetic disorder known as osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) congenita, formerly osteogenesis imperfecta tarda, which has also been referred to as Ekman-Lobstein syndrome, Vrolik syndrome, and glass-bone disease. Amongst other symptoms, of note here, was the blue-gray coloration of the infant’s sclera, which is due to the reduction of collagen in the scleral layer, allowing the underlying choroidal veins to show through.
