Caption:
This photomicrograph of a tissue sample from a lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) lesion, revealed the presence of a stellate abscess, which forms due to the merging of microfoci of suppuration. Though a common histopathologic finding, the presence of a stellate abscess found in a biopsied specimen is not pathognomonic for LGV, which is caused by the bacterium, Chlamydia trachomatis.
