Caption:
Under a magnification of 450X, this photomicrograph of a hematoxylin-eosin (H&E)-stained specimen, revealed some of the histopathology found in a tissue sample taken from the edge of a chronic inflammatory granule in a case of actinomycosis, or mycetoma, caused by the Gram-positive, fungus-like aerobic bacterium, Propionibacterium propionicus, formerly known as Arachnia propionica. Note the presence of what are termed club-like formations, which are actually the blunted ends of the eosinophilic radiations emanating from the central region of the granule.
