Caption:
This image depicts the face, arm, and hand of a child, who had leukemia, and had secondarily contracted chickenpox, which manifested as this severe, generalized, maculopapular rash. The severity of this patient’s outbreak was greatly increased due to his leukemia-induced lowered immune response to the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), also known as Human herpesvirus 3 (HHV-3).
