Entitled, “Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo”, this image was created by CDC Veterinary Medical Officer, Brian H. Bird, PhD, DVM. This 2012 photo, taken at an Ebola treatment hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo, shows water and sanitation staff, and clinical care nurses with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders) preparing for a typical day in the isolation wards. This photo earned Dr. Bird a tie for the Second Place award in the 2014 CDC Connects Annual Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the category of “International Programs”.
