This photomicrograph of a transaxial section of a spinal cord, revealed the presence of lesions that are characteristically encountered in non-Addison’s macrocytic anemias, that are due to a vitamin B12 deficiency. Note the subacute degeneration of both the dorsal and lateral columns of the cord.
