Captured on November 5, 2014, during a supplementary immunization campaign, this image depicted Kenyan Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) resident, Samuel Juma, as he searched for a mobile phone signal, by climbing onto a termite mound located in Wajir Bor, Kenya. Samuel was attempting to trace the locations of polio vaccination teams in the field. The FETP trains workers on the ground to help countries build sustainable capacity for detecting and responding to health threats. The program develops in-country expertise, so that disease outbreaks can be detected locally, and prevented from spreading.
