Under a magnification of 200X, this photomicrograph depicted a view of a number of Trichophyton mentagrophytes peridial hyphae, which originated from the outer wall, or peridium, of a cleistothecium. A cleistothecium contains numerous asci, which in turn contain the organism’s reproductive cells known as ascospores.
