This image from 1962, depicted the upper body of a plague victim, who happened to be a veterinarian. The photograph highlighted the presence of a left axillary bubo, or swollen lymph node, brought on by the plague bacterium, Yersinia pestis. The patient was located in Sonora, Mexico. The photograph was donated from the collection of immunologist, Dr. Karl Friedrich Meyer .
