Caption:
This image depicted a close view of a young child’s left thigh. The patient was in a clinical setting, in a state of opisthotonos, due to a case of Pseudomonas meningitis, caused by a Pseudomonas sp. bacterium, which had been cultured from this gangrenous left leg wound. Known as pyoderma gangrenosum, though the leg wound cultures proved positive for the Pseudomonas bacterium, no fungal organisms were cultured. See PHIL 20835 and 20836, for two additional views of the boy’s leg ulcer.
