This historic 1966 image, depicted what was an allergen-air sampler, which had been placed atop the roof of what was formerly, Building 4, located on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Roybal Campus, in Atlanta, Georgia. A Petri dish had been placed inside the confines of the sampler, containing a growth medium, which would be exposed for an undisclosed period of time. The culture plate would then be incubated at a measured temperature, and the colonies of microorganisms that would develop, would subsequently be analyzed, giving scientists a better understanding of what type of organisms were being dispersed throughout this region, by way of the environmental wind currents.
