Captured in 1964, this image depicted two laboratory technicians, who were inside a laboratory environment, while in the process of extracting a blood sample from a sedated primate. The lab was inside the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) field station, located in Phoenix, Arizona. See PHIL 21639, for an exterior view of the facility. Originally, the Phoenix field station specialized in the study of diarrhea and dysentery, concentrating on vector-borne diseases transmitted by flies, which included polio. The field station eventually became heavily involved in the study of hepatitis, as well.
