Caption:
Under a magnification of 400X, this photomicrograph revealed some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by this dermatophytic fungal organism, which was a species of Gymnoascus, labeled strain I-97. This view offered a close look at the ragged outer wall of one of the organism’s cleistothecia, known as the peridium, which enclosed numerous reproductive cells, grouped into structures referred to as asci. This peridium was composed of a tightly-woven layer of smooth, septate hyphae. This is a closer view than is offered in PHIL 22198.
