This image from 1965, depicted an anterior view of a patient’s lower legs and feet, highlighting the marked pathologic changes seen in the left ankle and foot, which had been diagnosed as a case of actinomycotic mycetoma, caused by the bacterium, Streptomyces somaliensis, formerly known as Nocardia somaliensis. Note the severe soft tissue swelling throughout the affected region.
