Caption:
This image depicted a right lateral view of a patient’s right shoulder, highlighting the region just posterior to the axilla, where you can see a lesion that happened to be the remnant of a human bot fly, Dermatobia hominis, bite site. The second to third-staged instar larva had been extracted 2-hours before this photograph was captured. It was suspected that the patient was bitten while in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, between July-August 1964.
