Caption:
This image depicted a right lateral view of a horse’s neck region, highlighting the evidence of a one-day-old vampire bat bite. This animal had been living in Sámara, a village located on the Nicoya Peninsula, in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica in August 1964. Note how the bite site discharge had dried on the horse’s coat as it had dripped from the wound.
