Under a magnification of 1100X, this photomicrograph of a Gram-stained sample, revealed the presence of numerous actinomyces-like, Leptotrichia buccalis, strain 45-195-65, bacteria. Though this organism usually stains as a Gram-negative bacterium, sometimes fresh bacteria can stain as Gram-positive, while older cells can even stain both negatively, and positively, as was the case with these sampled organisms.
