This photomicrograph of an unidentified smear sample, revealed the presence of Donovan bodies, a type of cellular inclusion. The specimen had been obtained from a patient with a case of granuloma inguinale, also known as Donovanosis, caused by the bacterium, Klebsiella granulomatis, formerly Calymmatobacterium granulomatis.
