At a magnification of 125X, this photomicrograph of a liver tissue specimen, obtained from a patient with post-necrotic cirrhosis, demonstrates a broad fibrotic septum on the right and a portal region infiltrated by mononuclear inflammatory cells. Adjacent to the septum, centrally and to the left, proliferating hepatocytes form a regenerative hepatic nodule, within which numerous lightly stained hepatocytes exhibit ballooning degeneration.
