Caption:
This photograph was captured in a forest environment and depicts numerous foxglove plants displaying their tubular, pendant flowers. Some blossoms appear pink, while others are white. Foxgloves belong to the genus Digitalis. All parts of these plants are poisonous, containing cardiac glycosides such as digoxin and digitoxin, which can induce cardiac arrhythmias. Symptoms of poisoning may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and confusion. Despite their toxicity, these glycosides have been used for centuries in medicine to manage certain cardiac arrhythmias and to increase cardiac contractility due to their positive inotropic properties.
