Caption:
This image depicts three test tubes containing dilute gelatin medium, also known as gelatin broth. The tube on the left was inoculated with Nocardia asteroides, the center tube with Nocardia brasiliensis, and the tube on the right with a species of the genus Streptomyces. This medium is used to help differentiate Nocardia spp. from Streptomyces based on growth characteristics in gelatin. In this example, N. asteroides exhibits sparse, flaky growth; N. brasiliensis demonstrates robust growth with accumulation at the bottom of the tube; and Streptomyces shows variable growth, often described as stringy or flaky in appearance.
