Caption:
From a close right lateral perspective, this image depicts the head of an infant, highlighting a low-set, posteriorly rotated right auricle. This congenital finding was one feature of the infant’s condition associated with Trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), historically referred to as No. 17–18 (E) trisomy syndrome. At autopsy, cardiac findings included a ventricular septal defect (VSD), patent foramen ovale, patent ductus arteriosus, and dextroposition of the aorta. See PHIL 23634 for additional external findings from an anterior perspective, including a shortened upper lip, widely spaced nipples, clenched hands, and overlapping of the index finger over the third finger.
