Caption:
This image depicts a medial view of the right foot of a 3-day-old infant born with Trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), historically referred to as No. 17–18 (E) trisomy syndrome. A characteristic rocker-bottom deformity of the plantar surface is visible. At autopsy, cardiac findings included a ventricular septal defect (VSD), patent foramen ovale, patent ductus arteriosus, and dextroposition of the aorta. See PHIL 23634 for additional external findings from an anterior perspective, including a shortened upper lip, widely spaced nipples, clenched hands, and abnormal overlapping of the fingers.
