Under 400X magnification, this photomicrograph of canine brain tissue from the brainstem depicts cellular degeneration and inflammatory cell infiltrates. There is vacuolization of the white matter consistent with myelin sheath edema. These findings are associated with canine distemper, caused by canine distemper virus, a member of the genus Morbillivirus.
