This image shows a high-magnification frontal view of a bromothymol blue (BTB) agar culture plate inoculated with Neisseria meningitidis group B, types 1 and 2, from a California culture mixture. Incubation produced small colonies demonstrating differential pH reactions. The colony in the lower right exhibits acid production, causing the BTB indicator to turn yellow, while the colony in the upper left remains green, indicating a neutral pH.
