Caption:
This image shows an anterior full-body view of a 7½-year-old boy with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS), an X-linked recessive immunodeficiency disorder. Clinical manifestations in this patient included thrombocytopenia, recurrent infections with chronic draining otitis media and chronic otitis externa, pneumonia, dysgammaglobulinemia, and chronic eczematous eruptions visible on the right ear, face, neck, and lower extremities. Due to its X-linked recessive inheritance, WAS predominantly affects males; this patient’s younger brother was also affected. See PHIL 23735 for a close view of the right ear demonstrating otitis externa.
