This image shows a close anterior view of the face of a 12-year-old African American girl demonstrating hyperpigmentation associated with systemic lupus erythematosus. See PHIL 23749 and PHIL 23751 for additional views of this patient’s right palm and face, respectively, highlighting similar blotchy hyperpigmentation. The facial lesions were also raised. The patient was treated with prednisone 30 mg daily and experienced complete resolution of facial hyperpigmentation within one month, while pigmentation of the hands improved only partially.
