This historic photograph was captured from inside a World Health Organization (WHO) Smallpox Eradication Program transport vehicle driven by WHO epidemiologist Marc A. Strassburg, MPH, DrPH. The view shows a military tank and machine-gun emplacement positioned at a roundabout during a curfew in Dacca (Dhaka), Bangladesh, just days after the August 15, 1975 coup d'état and assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Note the Red Cross emblem placed on the vehicle’s windscreen, which allowed the WHO search team to pass without hindrance.
