Caption:
Under a magnification of 475X, this photomicrograph of an India ink–stained specimen reveals numerous round, yeast forms of Cryptococcus neoformans, each exhibiting a thick-walled mucopolysaccharide capsule. This staining technique enhances visualization of the organism’s outer capsular layer, which appears as a clear halo surrounding each cell.
