This illustration highlights morphologic features of a single Schistosoma japonicum ovum. Eggs of S. japonicum are more rounded than those of other species, measuring approximately 70–100 µm in length and 55–64 µm in width. The spine is small and inconspicuous (white arrowhead) compared with that of other species. Eggs are typically shed in stool.
