This illustration highlights a morphologic comparison between two hemoflagellate forms: the crithidial (epimastigote) form and the trypanosomal (trypomastigote) form. The crithidial form on the left has a flagellum that emerges anterior to the nucleus, with a short undulating membrane and a kinetoplast located anterior to the nucleus. In contrast, the trypanosomal form on the right has a flagellum associated with a long undulating membrane extending the length of the body, and a kinetoplast positioned at the posterior end.
