Caption:
This illustration highlights morphologic features of the flagellated protozoan Trichomonas vaginalis. Trophozoites are pyriform in shape and measure approximately 7–30 µm in length. They possess five flagella: four anteriorly directed and one associated with the undulating membrane. The nucleus is typically located at the broader anterior end and contains dispersed chromatin and a small karyosome. The cytoplasm contains numerous granules, although these may not be visible in Giemsa-stained specimens.
